The ask

The clients wanted this house renovation in Thornhill to stay open and calm on the main floor, and they wanted one room with permission to carry more. Living, dining, and cooking would share a pale floor. The bathroom was the room they were willing to let grow heavier.

The plan

We kept the living room long and light: a cream sofa, pale wood floors, a fireplace at one end, and a brass etagere so the objects have a place and the walls can stay quiet. The dining table is a darker wood, set under a branching chandelier, with an irregular mirror on the wall. The kitchen changes colour rather than weight. Sage cabinetry, a pale counter, a black faucet, and brass pendants over the island. The bathroom is the turn in the house: grey stone, a walnut vanity, and brass at the mirrors and the faucets. The bedroom stays with the pale side, behind sheer curtains.

The walk-through

You move from a light living room, past the brass shelf, to a dark dining table and then a green kitchen. The bathroom is the room that stops you. Stone on the wall, wood under the sink, brass at the mirror. That metal is the thread. It shows up on the shelf, the pendants, and the bathroom fittings, so the sage kitchen and the stone bath still belong to one house.
