Clinton Street ApartmentColour arrives first, in a plan small enough to take in at once.

Interior of an apartment on Clinton Street in Toronto, with a blue sofa, a yellow chair, and a white kitchen.

The ask

The clients wanted this apartment on Clinton Street to feel bright in a small plan. Sitting and cooking had to share one room. A bedroom and a den needed to stay quieter beside that colour, and the bathroom had to feel as finished as the room at the window.

The plan

Light grey walls and a pale tile floor carry the main rooms. A blue sofa and a yellow chair take the window, and the sofa opens flat when the room needs another bed. The kitchen is white, with an island, gold stools, and a subway-tile backsplash, open to the sofa. A small den holds a grey sofa that opens the same way, with the bedroom visible through the doorway. The bedroom steps to a dark wood floor, a grey upholstered bed, and yellow cushions. The bathroom is white marble-look tile, a sliding glass shower, and a white vanity. On the brick front, a painted butterfly sits over the doors.

The walk-through

You come into the yellow chair and the blue sofa, with the white island a few steps on. The hall turns to the den, and the bedroom is the door beyond it. The bathroom closes the apartment in white stone. Gold on the stools, and the yellow chair, keep the pale rooms from going blank.
