Whitby HouseOne room takes the colour, and the rest of the house stays light.

Location: Whitby, ON
Project: House styling
Where: Living, dining, kitchen, bedrooms, bathroom
Palette: White, dusty rose, and black

Interior of a house on Disney Court in Whitby, with a light living room, a white kitchen, and a bedroom in dusty rose.

The ask

The clients wanted this house on Disney Court to feel settled from the front door to the bedrooms. The main floor had to stay light and easy to move through. One bedroom could take the colour. The kitchen had to feel sharp without turning the whole house dark.

The plan

We kept the living room pale: a light sectional, a dark round table, and art on the walls. The dining table sits nearby, black chairs under a simple pendant. The kitchen is white, with a black island and stools pulled up to it. One bedroom takes dusty rose in the curtains and the pillows, with a fluted wood chest and a pale bed. The other bedrooms stay quieter, in grey and white. A wood vanity and a terrazzo shower keep the bathroom in the same family.

The walk-through

You come into a light room, the sofa and a dark table already set. The kitchen is the next turn: white cabinets, a black island, and the table just beyond. Upstairs, one bedroom is the colour of the house, rose at the window and white everywhere else. The other rooms stay calm. White and black hold the main floor together. The rose bedroom is what you remember after you leave.
