Oakville HouseFormal enough for a long dinner, soft enough for a Sunday at home.

Location: Oakville, ON
Project: House interior
Where: Dining, living, kitchen, bedrooms, baths
Palette: White, black, and warm wood

Interior of an Oakville house, with a dark dining table, light wood floors, and a white living room.

The ask

The clients wanted this house interior in Oakville to hold a proper dinner and still work for a family, including a child's room. The main rooms could be composed. The bedrooms needed permission to change mood without leaving the house behind.

The plan

The dining room is the formal note: a dark table, light chairs, and a large abstract mural on the wall behind them. The living room stays lighter, a white sofa and a fireplace on warm wood floors. A second sitting room goes darker, navy walls and blue drapery, so the house has a place to watch and to work. Bedrooms stay pale, with white bedding and dark nightstands. A child's room takes a crib, a patterned wall, and a softer palette. The kitchen and the baths stay crisp, white and wood, and the stair is black against a light wall.

The walk-through

You come to the dining table first, dark against a painted wall. The living room is the lighter room beside it, the fireplace at the end of the view. Further in, the navy room lowers the mood, and the bedrooms bring it back to white. The child's room is the softest of them. Black, on the table, the stair, and a few fittings, is the line that keeps the pale rooms composed.
