Toronto HouseA city house that learned how to feel unhurried.

Location: Toronto, ON
Project: House interior
Where: Living, dining, kitchen, bedrooms, baths
Palette: Warm wood, white, and grey

Interior of a Toronto house, with light walls, a wood kitchen, and a grey sofa.

The ask

The clients wanted this house interior in Toronto to feel lived in without feeling heavy. The living room and the bedrooms could go light. The kitchen was the room allowed to keep its wood.

The plan

We kept the living room on a pale floor: a grey sectional, a wood coffee table, and windows doing most of the work. The dining table is dark, set under a simple chandelier, with one green chair as the deeper note. The kitchen stays in warm wood cabinets, a pale counter, and an island. Bedrooms take grey upholstered beds and wood nightstands. The bathrooms are white and quiet, so the wood of the kitchen is what you remember when you leave them.

The walk-through

You come into a bright living room, the sofa facing the window. The dining table sits nearby, darker than the rest of the floor. The kitchen is the change of material: wood cabinets, a pale island, the meal still in the same house. The bedrooms close the day in grey and white. Warm wood, in the kitchen and underfoot, is what keeps the pale rooms from feeling temporary.
